HISTORY

While CEO Josh Cohen was studying abroad at the University of Connecticut in Australia, the Junklugger idea came to him like lightning. One of his friends mentioned making $ 100 for dragging away a neighbor’s refrigerator.

Josh then thought, “Hey, I can!”

The year was 2004, and upon returning to the US, Josh Cohen took to the streets distributing homemade leaflets across town. First, he went door to door, letting his neighbors know that he was a professional, responsible student, able and willing to donate or recycle as many of their items as possible.

Soon the phones started ringing and Josh quickly realized that there was a need for reliable, professional, and environmentally friendly garbage disposal services.

He built his business from the ground up, Josh was also especially passionate about his customers and always handled their property with care while trying to keep as much out of landfill as possible. He noticed from his first job that the “junk” he was lugging away was often so much more to his clients. He saw that he often removed memories and items that had a lot of sentimental value.

Early on, he spent a lot of time with a neighbor / client who was clearing their home for sale after her 48-year-old husband passed away. Another client who lived around the corner was cleaning up her basement after all of the kids had gone to college.

As Josh carefully carried items up and down, his customers followed him, talking lovingly about the family memories from every box, toy, wardrobe or piece of furniture. He felt a strong conviction in his heart that he couldn’t just throw all these memories in the trash.

This is where the story began.
